Red Lotus Band by Ki-Hyun Ryu

I guess a lot of people disagree with the elements I used in this piece?

Anyway, I chose the elements I did specifically because of the mindset behind their martial art, and their personality.

image

Waterbending is all about balance and harmony in movements. As Leo is about balance in his discipline and in his personality, and the amount of extreme control needed to manipulate water and the sheer variety of uses (including cutting through steel beams and manipulating the environment to the user’s advantage- like flower fields or water under steel grating), it matches him perfectly.

Earthbending, as Toph says, “is a stubborn element. If you’re going to move it, you’ve got to be like a rock yourself.” It’s all about facing a problem from one direction and forcing your will upon it, usually in the most physical way. “There’s no different angle, no clever solution, no trickity-trick that’s going to move that rock. You’ve got to face it head on.” Fire might SEEM like the obvious answer for Raph, but really, his personality corresponds more with the willful earthbender than a firebender.

Airbending, on the other hand, IS all about taking alternate options. Spiral movements and evasion are the name of the game, as the airbender takes their time to observe, deliberate and figure out the best solution to the problem. Donnie, with his intricate maps and his dancing around the issue of his crush with April, in addition to the motivations behind the creation of Metalhead as a ‘solution’ to his staff being repeatedly broken, fits right into this. His penchant for overthinking alternate solutions instead of taking a decisive step gets him in trouble in Mousers Attack. Plus, I really love the idea of him tricking out his bo staff with a retractable glider.

Finally, Mikey. Fire is a tricky element to control, like nunchucks, which is one set of weapons to have no known katas for their sheer unpredictability. It is fueled by emotions -not anger, as those who might argue Raph would fit best as a firebender- but life and energy and enthusiasm and joy. Yes, joy. Like Mikey, these traits and the resulting fire can get really out of hand if given the chance, but one only needs to see Mikey’s passion and intense love for everything in his life- his brothers, his sensei, his skateboarding, his food, and his hobby of naming everything he sees- to understand that he’s a natural firebender at heart.

I wonder if Splinter’s knowledge of nerve points and his enlightened type of universal harmony would make him more of an energybender?

Marsh’s meta on turts and their elements makes me happy.

The Legend…

bring the light

All I can say is that there were tears, and that the Spirit of the ATLA was strong in this finale. I was so incredibly moved. It was beautiful. Stunningly, heart-wrenchingly beautiful. And like Beginnings, I’d…rather leave it all at that. Because very few stories have brought me to the place this ending did.

I…can’t think of any other way to put it.

I’m at a loss for words.

On the off-chance you can experience the Sublime through a children’s show…or, let me correct myself, through a story…It’s an experience. One that you’ve hoped to have for years, through early adolescence into teen-dome and on to your first ventures in adulthood…and it’s that expectation coupled with the ACTUAL experience (that turns out to be grander than you could’ve imagined) that turns it all into a sublime moment that leaves your eyes watering and your chest tight and your heart nostalgic and just the slightest bit disoriented and happy and sad and, of course, wanting to feel it all over again.

I think that’s what happens when you’re made to love someone, intensely, in a very short amount of time before they’re gently tugged away by the end of their story. It’s convoluted because how do you internalize a lifetime in only an hour? Several thousand lifetimes?

We can’t.

Not even a hundred episodes is enough.

Yet we don’t think of this, at least while the story is being told, but the moment it’s over, we bask in what it was and then proceed to wonder tirelessly over what we didn’t see.

Because it’s impossible to process a life that quickly. Our love and our wonder turns into a response to the story: drawings, analysis, head-canons, fanfictions, songs, anything and everything because there’s so much to a life. Aang, you are missed. Wan, you’ve now been immortalized in the hearts of fans forever. Bryke, freakin’ A+ for you.

"It’s just as terrifically bad as way back when."

"Makes getting the kids to nap look like a cinch, hmm?"

A proper vacation on Ember Island with the family.

'In my younger days abroad, when the sun was just beginning to show itself, and the wind was at its strongest in the sails, I would feel him. I'd feel him in that ocean breeze and it strengthened me.'

A retrospect.

Note: It would seem that Korra’s chakras are completely open; she can control the Avatar State at will. I suppose that means her encounter with Aang had the same effect as Aang’s time spent with Guru Pathik.

I’d just like to know the specifcs…

A proper family vacation down on Ember Island, complete with sandcastles on the beach and a show in the evening.
